      Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is recognized as the highest grade of olive oil. However free fatty acid (FFA) in EVOO as a strong pro-oxidant promotes rancidity and lowers thermal stability. Therefore it is essential to remove FFA from EVOO. Adsorptive removal has attracted considerable attention. One promising adsorbent is mesoporous silica (MS) result from its large pore volume and surface area, controllable pore size, and facile surface modification. Especially adsorptive applications of MS are dependent on its surface properties. We report that amine surface functionalization of MS is used to improve its adsorption capacity and selectivity for FFA. Besides amine loading greatly affects interaction strength and space for FFA adsorption. Amine-functionalized MS with different amine loading were prepared and adsorption performance of resulting samples was evaluated to study the optimization of amine loading on MS.
