로마서에 나타난 반복과 지연을 통한 윤리적 권면

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 롬 12:1-2를 중심으로 신자의 삶에 대한 바울의 윤리적 접근을 고찰한 연구이다. 롬 12:1-2는 거시적 직설법-명령법 구조에서 명령법이 시작되는 부분으로, 바울의 이전 논의를 반영하고 있다. 특별히 ‘몸을 드리라’는 내용은 롬 6:13과 인지 영역(‘마음을 새롭게 하라, 분별하라’)을 담은 롬 8:5-11의 연결을 통해서 두 영역 구원 개념 속에서 신자의 삶의 모습, 그리고 그 시작점이 되는 성령으로 인한 새로운 사고 체계를 강조한다. 바울은 이런 자신의 강조점을 반복과 지연이라는 효과를 사용하여 독자에게 전달한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper is a study on Paul’s approach to the ethical exhortation in Rom 12:1-2. As an entrance to the imperative part in the macro level of "indicative-imperative" structure, Rom 12:1-2 reflects Paul"s previous arguments in Romans. The expression "to offer one"s body" in Rom 12:1 is reminiscent of what Paul links indicative and imperative within the two-realm framework in Rom 6:13. The cognitive languages ("to renew one"s mind," "to test and approve") in Rom 12:2 are connected to the content of Rom 8:5-11. In this sense, Paul describes one"s living toward God in new salvific realm as a proper Christian life in Rom 12:1-2. He also demonstrates that the renewed mind-set by the Holy Spirit is the beginning point of the Christian life in the new realm. Such interests of Paul are delivered to his readers through rhetorical devices of repetition and delay. Even though Paul commands his readers to live toward God in the new realm in Rom 6:13, only in Rom 8:5-11 he introduces the renewed mind-set by the Spirit as the first step toward such life. Also, only in Rom 12:1-2 Paul exhorts his readers to have such mind-set and use it. It reflects his strategy that the additional explanations in each step are important, and his readers should acknowledge them before moving into the topic of Christian life. Moreover, the repetitive nature of Rom 12:1-2 also indicates that Paul wants to stress the content of Rom 6:13 and 8:5-11. After all, through the devices of repetition and delay Paul delivers his ethical views to his readers in Rom 12:1-2. It includes the concept of salvation in two-realm framework, an integrity of one"s being a Christian and living, a serving life toward God, the importance of reassuring the bases of Christian life, and the renewed mind-set as the beginning point of Christian life.
