『巖棲幽事』의 주체 逸民, 명말 紳士의 은자상 = The Yimin as the Subject of Yanxi youshi: A New Hermit Model for the Late-Ming Gentry

국문 초록 (Abstract)

陳繼儒는 『巖棲幽事』에서 은자인 자신의 사적 일상을 서술했다. 『암서유사』의 주체인 은자는 賣文으로 생계를 잇고, 관료의 致君澤民을 비롯한 사회 활동에 관심을 표명하며, 『逸民史』를 저술했다. 진계유는 『일민사』를 통해 기존의 타율적 은자관을 거부하여 ‘出仕를 거부하고 은둔하되 주변에 학문ㆍ安民 등 隱德을 베푸는 지역의 엘리트’ 라는 새로운 은자상-일민을 제시했고 그 외의 여러 소품문에서는 일민에게 명말 타락한 신사층의 모범이라는 시대적 의미를 부여했다. 이들 저작을 배경으로 『암서유사』를 읽으면 일민, 즉 명말 모범적인 신사의 사적 일상에 대한 기록이라는 층위가 모습을 드러낸다. 본고는 특히 『암서유사』의 은자가 중앙 정치권력과 분리된 지역 엘리트로서 안민을 실천하는 한편, 검소한 상업 종사자로서 당시 신사층에서 만연한 사치를배격하는 사적 일상을 영위한다는 점을 조명했다.

In Yanxi youshi巖棲幽事, Chen Jiru陳繼儒 recorded his private daily life as a recluse.
The recluse, the central figure of Yanxi youshi, earns a livelihood by selling his literary works, expresses a profound interest in social activities―including the bureaucratic ideal of serving the ruler and governing the populace―and wrote Yimin shi逸民史. Through Yimin shi, Chen rejected the conventional, heteronomous view of recluses, instead proposing a new, exemplary model of the hermit: the yimin (disengaged scholar), defined as a local elite who refuses government service to live in seclusion while dispensing hidden virtues such as scholarship and public welfare within the local district. In his other writings, Chen endowed the yimin with contemporary significance as an ideal model for the corrupt late-Ming gentry class. Against the backdrop of these works, the textual layers documenting the private daily life of the yimin―the exemplary late-Ming gentry―reveal themselves in Yanxi youshi. This study particularly illuminates how the recluse in Yanxi youshi leads a private daily life that rejects the luxury rampant among the contemporary gentry; he functions as a local elite detached from central political authority who actively ensures the welfare of the people within the local jurisdiction, while concurrently operating as a frugal commercial practitioner.
