This study is a preliminary research on developing a K-pop dance education program for lower elementary school students. The 2022 revised curriculum em- phasizes creative and self-directed learning attitudes while incorporating popular dance into elementary education. Street dance, as a contemporary dance form in- tegrated with popular music, plays a crucial role in promoting creative expres- sion and self-expression. Particularly, its fusion with K-pop culture has further increased its popularity and educational applicability.
The educational value of Neulbom School K-pop dance is analyzed in four key aspects. First, as a medium of cultural communication, K-pop dance enables students to freely express themselves and engage in interactive communication through improvisation and individuality. Second, as a tool for self-expression, it helps students develop their identity and cultivate creative thinking through physi- cal movement. Third, through collaboration and relationship-building, students participate in group performances and teamwork, enhancing their social skills. Lastly, it contributes to physical and mental development by improving motor coordination, rhythm perception, and promoting healthy physical activity.
Based on these educational values, this study proposes a direction for develop- ing a street dance education program for lower elementary school students. The program is designed to be integrated with the Joyful Life curriculum, allowing students to become familiar with street dance in an accessible way. Since K-pop dance is structured based on street dance, the program aims to promote the activa- tion of K-Street Dance. It provides a comprehensive dance education, including fundamental movements such as bounce, step, turn, and isolation, along with cre- ative dance composition and performance activities.
This study is significant in positioning street dance not merely as a popular cultural phenomenon but as an educational tool that fosters creativity, self-expres- sion, and collaborative skills. Furthermore, continuous research is necessary to establish a structured educational approach, ensuring that Neulbom School K-pop dance positively impacts elementary school education.
