대중매체를 통한 일반인의 춤인식에 관한 소고 = (A) study on people's perception of dance through mass media

국문 초록 (Abstract)

92년이 춤의 해로 지정되어 여러 가지 다채로운 행사가 열렸으나, 현재 춤 예술의 공연상황은 종전과 별다를 바 없이 춤계 자체내의 행사수준을 넘어서지 못하고 있다. 여기에는 여러 가지 요인이 있겠지만, 대체로 춤 공연이 일반 대중의 관심을 끌지 못하고 있다는 사실이 그 요인으로 대두된다. 현재 일반인의 춤에 대한 인식은 춤이 특별한 대중적 관심이나 지적 흥미를 유발시키지 못하고 있다는 것이며, 이는 일반인이 춤을 자신과는 거리가 먼 별개의 예술이라고 인식하고 있다는 데에 기인한다. 이러한 거리감을 좁히기 위해 가장 적절한 것은 현대의 일반인들이 춤예술에 보다 쉽게 접근할 수 있고, 대중적 관심을 불러일으킬 수 있는 한 수단으로서 현대의 대중매체를 활용하는 방법이다.
따라서 먼저 대중매체가 춤에 대한 기사 및 방송 프로그램에 할애하는 시간과 편성내용을 TV방송 5사의 95년도 5월과 10월의 편성표와 EBS의 '예술의 광장' 프로그램을 선정하여 분석하고, 5대 일간지에서 95년도 1년 동안 120일분의 신문기사를 분석하여 조사하였다. 그리고 설문지를 통해 일반인들이 대중매체에서 춤을 얼마나 자주 접하며, 춤에 대한 인식 및 대중의 관심은 어느 정도인지를 조사하고, 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 춤의 활성화에 있어서 대중 매체의 개선 방안을 연구, 분석하였다.
설문조사에서 신문의 문화예술 기사를 보는 일반인들은 47.4%, TV를 통해 춤을 접한 사람들은 90.3%에 이르나, 그 동기를 보면 주관적 관심보다는 우연히 춤을 시청하거나 타의에 의해 접하는 경우가 대부분이었기 때문에, 이들에게 춤에 대한 관심과 흥미를 자발적으로 가질 수 있는 동기 유발 및 기회를 제공해야만 한다.
그 방법의 하나로 춤예술의 수용에 있어서 소극적인 TV와 신문매체의 여러 가지 문제점들을 개선해 나가면서, 춤에 관한 관심과 관련기사 및 방송의 비중을 적극적으로 늘린다면, 춤문화는 일반인의 생활 가까이 에서 친근하게 자리잡게 될 것이며, 일반인들이 자연스럽게 춤을 접하고 춤에 대한 새로운 인식을 갖게 될 것이다. 그럼으로써 문화로서의 춤예술은 보다 많은 일반인의 관심과 폭넓은 관객의 수용 속에서 분명하고 확고한 사회적, 문화적, 예술적 가치와 위상을 정립시켜야 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Although various dance events have been actively programmed particularly since 1992 which was designated as "Year of Dance", today's condition of dance art performances is little better beyond the events organized by the dance circle. There seems to be many causes for such poor dance performances, but the most plausible one conceived may be people's poor concern about dance. In other words, the general public perceive that the dance cannot attract people's special or intellectual interest and therefore, that dance is an art placed for from their living. In order to correct such a misunderstanding, the modern mass media should be more positively used because they may allow people to get access to the unfamiliar dance easily and thereby be interested in it.
With such a basic conception in mind, this study was aimed at surveying people's perception of dance through mass media. To this end, the programs of 5 local TV companies designed for May and October, 1995 and the EBS program "Hall of Art" were analyzed, while the articles of 5 major local dailies carried for 120 days in 1995 examined. Based on this analysis, people's perceptions of dance were surveyed through a questionnaire. Lastly, summing up all these theoretical and experimental studies, reform measures to promote dance using the mass media were explored.
It was disclosed through the survey that 47.4% of the sample people read the culture or art columns of the newspapers, and that 90.3% of them have seen the dance performances on TV. However, they did not proceed to watch the performances, but happened to see them or were force to do so. In consideration of such a low public recognition of dance, they should be more motivated or given opportunities to be interested in dance.
One of the ways to awaken people of the dance is to encourage our local mass media to organize more dance programs or increase their ratio of dance programs drastically. If so, our dance culture will be place nearer the public, and thereby, people will have more natural opportunities to get access to the art, and finally will be reawakened of the dance. All in all, the art of dance as a culture should be established as clearer and more solid social, cultural and artistic component of our community amid people's applauds and higher concern.
