It is especially gratifying to note the permanent character of the improvements being made upon the older lines of railway. Every improvement in the track which gives stability and smoothness tends to reduce the expense of operation and extend the useful life of the railway stock. The ultimate result is larger porfits and making a large reduction of rates possible without impairing the dividend paying value of the roads.
