The experiments were carried out to find the herbicide degrading bacterial distibution. 257 strains of herbicide resistant bacteria were collected from Wonju area and 30 strains of paraquat degrading bacteria, 11 strains of glyphosate degrading bacteria, 11 strains of dichlorvos degrading bacteria and 18 strains of phosphamidon degrading bacteria were isolated. 80.56% of total herbicide degrading bacteria were Gram positive. Total bacterial population of mountain area(C area) was higher than rice field area(B area) and vinyl plastic hothouse area(A area), but the rates of herbicide degrading bacteria were high in A area. Especially, the wellknown herbicides, paraquat and glyphosate, degrading and resistant bacteria were collected from all of A area. It means that many of farmers are using these herbicides very widely.
