북한의 고전소설사와 『화몽집』 = The History of Old Novel in North Korea and 『Hwamong-jip(花夢集)』

In north Korea, there has been many important achievements of scientific research in the field of Korean old nonel. They are applying the two concepts -a realistic tendency and a romantic tendency- to the main creative methods of old novel. The 17th century is regarded as the most important period in the history of old novel, and is dealed with as a separate chapter in the history books of Korean old novel. 『Hwamong-jip(花夢集)』 is especially emphasized as the first collection of medium-length stories in the history of Korean old novel. It is constituted with nine medium-length stories, but the original number of stories can be defined as ten including <Choichuk-jun(崔陟傳)> which has been left out. The exitence of 『Hwamong-jip』 may offer a significant clue to understand the historical stream of 17th century Korean novel. The romantic fiction grew rapidly into favor, undergoing vigorous inner connection of genre, and the variegated transfigurations of it were promoted all the more. Especially through translating into Korean, the romantic fiction played an important role in the creation and circulation of popular novel written in Korean later ages.
