The vertical transportation zoning plan for elevators in high-rise buildings is a critical factor to establish an efficient transportation system. The purpose of this research is to derive an optimal vertical transportation zoning system for high-rise buildings. The area of typical floors according to the total number of floors were derived. By calculating traffic volumes of elevators, possible vertical transportation zoning were studied. Based on the results, numbers of and the area ratio of elevators were examined and optimal vertical transportation zoning were selected. This research can propose information and solutions for vertical transformation zoning when planning high-rise buildings in it’s initial stage and can also make progress rapidly.
