As well as receiving formal education in school, there is an urgent need for continuous in-service training and development for health workforce in order for them to cope with the ever-changing world of work. Despite the importance of in-service training, there is limited literature with regard to the impact of training and development on the performance and motivation in the public health settings. This article is intended as a scholarly add-on to the growing body of literature by providing empirical evidence on the impact of training and development on performance and motivation among public sector health workers in Ghana. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey using convenience sampling technique. Data was collected using a survey questionnaire administered to a sample of 137 healthcare workers. A regression model was used for the data analysis. The study highlights the need for policymakers and health human resources managers to prioritize investments in innovative training and development interventions and scale up existing ones aimed at improving overall quality healthcare delivery.
