In 2010, Myanmar's society marked a turning point by implementing an open-door policy under long authoritarianism and closed system and authoritarianism. The Myanmar women's movement sought to achieve gender equality through various activities such as advocacy, education, campaigns and governance, and promoted gender education as a tool for gender equality.
This study looked at gender education within the women's movement in Myanmar in the context of post colonial feminism.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, the reason for the revitalization of gender education in Myanmar was, above all, to dismantle discriminatory and violent cultural practices for women. Political and social changes in Myanmar played an important role in revitalizing gender education, thanks to the introduction of civil democracy as an open policy and the Western development organizations and the gender equality aid fund to foster civil society in Myanmar.
Second, the gender education of Yangon, a large city, and Kkachin, a local area, was interconnected, but Kkachin had the characteristics of a disputed area. Kkachin's gender education reflects the characteristics of Kkachin, where conflict-ridden IDP refugees reside everywhere, while IDP women's support and education activities were not guaranteed, and IDP women had a desire to receive education linked to real life such as physiological hygiene and contraception.
Third, even though gender education had many problems, changes were slow but emerging. In particular, Kkachin's IDP activists recognized domestic violence as discrimination and violence, recognized discrimination inherent in culture and tradition, discussed and educated the residents of family, colleagues and camps, and changed themselves and the community.
