이규보 <동명왕편>의 서사시적 성격과 고구려의 정체성 = Epic Characteristics of Lee Gyu-bo`s Story of King Dong-myeong and the Identity of Goguryeo

There is an intensive debate on the identity of Goguryeo between Korea and China. China bluntly reveals its intention to incorporate Goguryeo into its history under the name of the `North-East Project.` In this respect, it is very important to correctly graspthe identity of Goguryeo, and examine how it is related to the history and culture of Korea. With this point in mind, this study tries to examinethe identity of Goguryeo by recapitulating the contents of China`s North East Project, and then by explicating the epic contents and formal and thematic properties of Lee Gyu-bo`s `Story of King Dong-myeong.` The contents in Lee Gyu-bo`s epic `Story of King Dong-myeong` are very important data in revealing the identity of Goguryeo. `Story of King Dong-myeong` is an epic featuring the birth and life of King Dong-myeong, the founder of Goguryeo. The myth of King Dong-myeong, transmitted as the myth of the foundation of Goguryeo, well shows Koreans` national properties along with the myth of Dangun.
