It is the purpose of this writing to attempt to formulate an empirical theory about value-orientations, especially those concerning social change. The intention of this theoretic formulation is to make a frame of reference for analysis and evaluation of the value-orientations of Christian education in Korea.
The hypothesis in this theory-building is that one's ultimate value-commitment, time-perspectives, and social perspectives are some of the very important factors which decide the characteristics of one's value-orientations for social change, and that types of value-orientations correlated with types of theology.
The role of the value-orientations in a social change could be seen from two perspectives: one as giving direction for the social change and the other as giving driving force (or influence) to it. The typology of the value-orientations is as follows: renunciating type, adjusting type, creative type (these three refer to the driviz force for it), self-contenting type, egoistic type, and responsible type (these three refer to the direction of it).
