This study was designed to investigate the color fastness to washing, perspiration, fastness to crocking, light fastness, and shrinkage of the fabrics for Korea costume. Three silk fabrics, three synthetic fabrics, and three cellulosic fabrics, which are all commercially manufactured, were used for this study.
The experimental result obtained in this study can be summarized as follows:
1. The light fastness of the 100% polyester fabrics was high, whereas 100% silk was the fastness.
2. All kinds of fabrics were fast to perspiration.
The staining by alkali perspiration was lower than the staining by alkali perspiration. From the result, 100% silk fabrics showed the worst staining.
3. In the experiment of the color fastness by dry cleaing, the change of color was negligibly small for all the fabrics. For the staining, all fabrics but silk yangdan were fast. In case of color fastness by laundering, the change of color was not observed for all the fabrics.
For the staining, all fabrics but silk fabrics were fast.
The color fastness after the repeated wash was excellent.
4. In the fabrics of silk and cotton, the fastness to wet crocking was worse than to dry crocking.
The other fabrics showed good fastness to crocking.
5. Shrinkage rate of the ramie and hemp were large, especially after ten cycles of wash, hemp´s shrinkage rate was 10%. On the other hand, the shrinkage rate of 100% polyester fabrics were 0%.
Warp shrinkage rate was larger than that of weft for all the fabrics.
