Nuffield Advanced Science Biology에 대한 분석적 연구 = (An) analytical study on the A-level nuffield biology

국문 초록 (Abstract)

1957년 미국의 "Mid-Century revolution of Science education"의 일환으로 BSCS가 조직되었고 이어 영국에서도 보조를 맞추어 1966년 Ordinary-level Nuffield Biology(O-level Nuffield Bidogy) 초판이, 1974년에는 재판이 출판되었다. 보다 뛰어난 학생들과 대학 진학을 못하는 학생들의 지적 만족을 충족시켜 주기 위한 Advanced-level Nuffield Biology(A-level Nuffield Biology)가 1970년이래 1982년까지 연이어 발간되었고 1985년 재판이 출판되어 현재에 이르고 있다.
O-level에 대한 연구는 1980년에 정용재·한춘희에 의해 행해졌고 A-level에 대한 초판과 재판의 두 단원 "Maintenance of organism," "Control and Co-ordination in organis"에 대한 상호 비교한 결과는 아래와 같다.
1. A-level Nuffield Biology 초판에서는 주제를 구조와 기능에 두었고 수준을 조직ㆍ기관에 두고 있으며, 세포, 개체군, 군집에 대한 강조도는 약하다.
2. A-level Nuffield Biology 재판에서는 주제를 구조와 기능에 두었고 수준을 조직과 기관에 두고 있는 것은 초판과 동일하며 세포수준의 약간의 보강이 있으나 전통생물학적 면모를 크게 탈피 못하고 있다.
3. A-level Nuffield Biology는 실험에서 시작하여 해결하려는 탐구하는 과학으로서의 생물학의 모습을 뚜렷이 나타내고 있다. 그러므로 A-level Nuffield Biology에서 탐구하는 과학의 개념을 참고삼아 과학 영재를 위한 바람직한 생물교육과정을 마련해야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In order to get the datum for developing an ideal biology curriculum in Korea, the 2 units ("Maintenance of the organism", Control and co- ordination in organisms") in the first and the second editions of the British A-level Nuffield Biology were analyzed and compared each other. As a result, the following findings were obtained :
1. In the first edition of the A-level Nuffield Biology, the theme based on structure and the function, the level, based on tissue and organ; the levels of cell, population and community are not fully stressed.
2. In the second edition of the A-level Nuffield Biology, the theme based on structure and function, the level based on tissue and organ as in first edition. Even though cellular levels is rein forced a little bit, the second edition is considered to be within the category of the conventional textbook.
3. A-level Nuffield Biology, it is noticeable that it exhibits the biology as an inquiry science. Therefore, it is desirable to adopt the concept of the inquiry biological science from the Nuffield Biology for the improvement of the ideal biology curriculum in the Korean High Schools.
