Pre-treatment solutions on vase life, water content, water uptake, anthocyanin content, and peroxidase activity of Iris hollandica ‘Blue Magic’ were investigated. The vase life of cut Iris treated with 3% sucrose plus 100 ㎎ㆍL?¹ benzyl amino-purine (Sucrose + BA) was extended 4 days longer than the control. The treatments of 3% sucrose plus 0.4 mM silver thiosulphate (Sucrose + STS) and 3% sucrose plus 200 ㎎ㆍL?¹ 8-hydroxyquinoline sulphate (Sucrose + HQS) did not markedly extend the vase life. The amounts of water uptake and transpiration by all the treatments decreased at 2 to 4 days after harvest, but the amounts of Sucrose + BA were higher than that of the control. The water balance of Sucrose + BA showed slower change to minus value than that of the control. Anthocyanin content in the flower petal treated with Sucrose + BA was 3.5 times higher than that the control. The Sucrose + BA treatment delayed petal discoloration and senescence. Peroxidase (POD) activities of all the treatments reached the maximum stage at the 4th day after the treatments and decreased thereafter. Sucrose + BA treatment showed the highest POD activity at the 4th day.
