Abstract
The systematic study for utilization of the infant programs at cultural centers
aimed less than 3 year old is still lacking despite utilization of the programs at
cultural centers have been increasing with the trend of downgrade for early
education. The supply is growing with the increasing of utilization of cultural
center program for infants. However, providing a quality education is questioned
persistently and the specific research materials are in need. Therefore, the
utilization and recognition of infant programs at cultural centers according to
background variables of Mothers and children were researched in this study. Also
it was researched what kind of educational meaning and results affected to infant
children through the utilization of programs at cultural centers.
The research questions with these purposes in the study are as follows.
1. What is the status of infant programs at cultural centers?
2. What are the status of utilization and recognition of infant programs at
cultural centers according to background variables of Mothers?
3. What are the status of utilization and recognition of infant programs at
cultural centers according to background variables of children?
The subjects of this study were 300 Mothers who have infants. Those infants
were less than 36 month old and were attending cultural centers in Busan, Korea.
For the purpose of the study, the researcher used revised questionnaire was used
in the study by Insook Jang (2008) and Hyunjoo Chung (2010). The pre-research
was conducted from November 7th for two days at D cultural center in the
different district. The subjects of this pre-research were 25 Mothers of infants
who were less than 36 month old. The actual research was conducted from
December 7th for 3 weeks at 5 selected branches including L cultural center and
H cultural center among cultural centers at department stores and supermarkets
in Busan, Korea. The subjects of the research were 300 Mothers of infants who
were less than 36 month old. The questionnaire was distributed and collected
directly.
The data collected for this study was analyzed by using PASW 18.0 program.
The optional questions of questionnaire among answered questions were
conducted with percentage and frequency by each question. Kai verification was
conducted for frequency and percentage questions to find out the difference of variables
staff’s awareness are pointed. Furthermore, the change of right awareness of
education staff at cultural centers for infants is expected. This results show the
significant differences according to education background among background
variables of Mothers.
3. The utilization and recognition of infant programs at cultural centers according
to background variables of children.
First, as results of the utilization and recognition of infant programs at cultural
centers, infants utilized the areas of integrated play especially for once a week
for 40 minutes with the group of 9 to 12 infants.
The reasons were showed by interactive play teaching method with Mothers and
asking to centers directly or finding out the contents of programs by referring
the materials when selecting programs. This result showed significant differences
depending on ages among the background variables of children.
Second, as results of recognition of infant programs at cultural centers depending
on the back ground variables of children, the utilization of infant programs at
cultural centers was essential for the chance of enriched learning experience.
Especially, it helped children to get ability for communication and Mothers to do
parent’s role. Also, it helped to form children’s education and learning community.
Additionally, infants would use centers from 6-12 to 36 month and unique
imagination, activities of expression, and the areas of nature exploration needed
to be complementary. Early childhood education majors are preferred with the
heart and attitude for infants. For the improvement of cultural centers, the room
of infants and change of staff’s awareness are pointed. This results show the
significant differences according to ages among background variables of children.
