Families change is a global phenomenon, and the concept of family-friendly social environment has emerged in the early 2000s. Korean Protestant Church downplay new family changes and view as a family and social crisis. Korean Protestant Church adhere to traditional nuclear families and try to restore this model. This study aims to characterize family-friendly environment of Korean Protestant Church and to explore how it can contribute to family-friendly social environment of Korea. First, Through preceding literature research, I argued the relationship Korean families changes and the church. Second, I analyzed a concept and components of polices for creating a family-friendly social environment. Third, this study suggested the ways that churches create a family-friendly church environment in consideration of family changes.
Korean Protestant Church is produced by the trust in private relationships, the norm of limited reciprocity, the network closed into church. Protestant Church in Korea need to effort to reflect on families and family changes, embrace diverse families and foster a culture of gender equality in church through education and changes in the way of ministry. Churches are a good source of social capital that empower community capacity. Protestant Church in Korea should throw away the image of ‘church community’ as a closed system, but have open door to community for ‘the community’.
