레몬과 유칼립투스 에센셜오일의 항산화 및 항균 효과 = Antioxidant and antimicrobial effects of lemon and eucalyptus essential oils

Essential oils of lemon and eucalyptus have been used in aromatherapy and cosmetic. The therapeutic properties were many studied a lot and proved that the oils could help to relieve several myalgia and symptoms related to cold and fever, however lemon and eucalyptus essential oils were not well studied about antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. especially against skin flora In this study, we studied antioxidant activity and antimicrobial activity by using DPPH radical scavening activity and paper disc method. DPPH radical scavening avtivity showed that the lemon oil had 79% inhibition rate at 10% concentration. The eucalyptus oils had little effect on antioxidant activity. Also, combination of these oils had little enhancememt on antioxidant activity. Paper disk method demonstrated that the eucalyptus oil had a high antimicrobial effect against especially Candida albicans causing athlete’s foot disease and Propionibacterium acnes causing acne pimples in a concentration dependent manner. The lemon oil had little antimicrobial effect, and the combination of these oils had enhancememt on antimicrobial effect against propioni bacterium acne. The results of these studies suggest that the lemon oil had significant antioxidant activity and eucalyptus oil had significant antimicrobial activity. the combination of these oils had synergy effect against propionibacterium acne. in conclusion, because lemon oil and eucalyptus oil has antifungal action and effect on removing acne. These oils can be used to cure trouble skin or acne care as a natural antimicrobial agent and antioxidant.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 아로마 테라피의 주체인 에센셜 오일들 중 레몬 에센셜 오일과 유칼립투스 에센셜 오일을 이용하여 연구를 진행 하였다. 레몬과 유칼립투스 오일은 아로마테라피에서 진정, 근육통, 감기나 열증상에 있어서 치료적인 요소로 많은 연구가 되어 왔으나 피부 상재균에 대한 항균 활성과 항산화 효과에 관한 연구가 부족하여 왔다. 이에 본 연구에서는 DPPH 라디칼 소거능 기법을 사용하여 항산화 활성을 연구 하였고 디스크 확산법을 사용하여 항균 효과를 알아보았다. 항산화 활성 연구에서 레몬 오일은 10%의 농도에서 79% 정도의 항산화 활성을 보였으며 유칼립투스 오일에서는 아주 약한 항산화 활성이 관찰 되었다. 항균 효과는 5개의 미생물 중 특히 Candida albicans와 Propionibacterium acnes (P. acne)에서 아주 우수하게 나타났고 농도 의존적으로 항균력이 나타났다. 두 오일을 혼합 하였을 시 항균 활성에 있어서 상승효과는 P. acne에서 효과적으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과 레몬 오일은 항산화 활성에 있어서 효과가 크고 유칼립투스 오일은 항균 활성에 있어서 효과가 아주 우수하게 나타났으며 혼합 오일에서는 P. acne에 대한 항균 효과가 증대되는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과를 종합적으로 볼 때, 레몬 오일과 유칼립투스 오일은 항진균 효과와 여드름 균 제거에 효과가 있어 문제성 피부나 여드름 치료에 효과적인 화장품 성분으로 가능할 것으로 사료된다.
