This study comprehensively analyzed the impact of Korea's foreign direct investment (FDI) in China on domestic industries through input-output analysis. Utilizing data from 2011 to 2023, the research examined 45 industrial sectors, investigating forward and backward linkage effects, production inducement effects, value-added effects, supply disruption effects, and price transmission effects. The analysis revealed positive export-related outcomes of Korean FDI in China. A 1% increase in direct investment corresponded to a 0.79% increase in exports to China and a 0.28% increase in imports. However, a negative impact was observed in capital formation, with a 1% investment increase resulting in a 0.08% decrease in China's total capital formation. Industrial spillover effect analysis demonstrated high forward and backward linkage effects in manufacturing, service, and top export sectors. Particularly, wholesale trade, transportation, and professional scientific and technical service industries showed significant economic impact. Notably, most production and value-added coefficients were extremely low, suggesting limited economic spillover effects of foreign direct investment. Supply disruption and price transmission effect analyses confirmed that top export sectors, transportation equipment manufacturing, and metal processing industries play essential roles in other industries' production processes. Based on the research findings, policy recommendations were proposed, including exchange rate volatility response strategies, market penetration in China, market diversification, and innovative industry development. The study emphasized the importance of selective and strategic investment approaches, concentrated support for technology-intensive industries, and investment strategies considering inter-industry connectivity.
This research provides a multidimensional and comprehensive analysis of Korea's FDI in China, offering critical insights for future investment strategies. However, in-depth analysis of investment types' specific characteristics and individual corporate investment strategies remain subjects for subsequent research.
