Importance of an arboretum for the purpose of teaching student in the field of botany and forestry has been recognized since 1907 in Korea. However, the establishment of an arboretum had been delayed until Seoul National University decided to establish it at a valley of Mt. Kwanak according to the Regulation no. 94 of the Seoul National University on the 21st October 1967. It was promulgated by the President Decree no. 5666 on the 10th June 1971 as an institute atached to the College of Agriculture, Seoul National Uuiversity.
It is located southern suburb of Seoul City ranging from the main campus of our university to an entrance on Anyang valley of Anyang, Kyunggido as below.
