카릴 처칠의 『습지』: 여성과 자연 = Caryl Churchill's Fen : Women and Nature

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aims to explore how multi-capital dominates and exploits women and nature in globalization. Because of standardization of female role and nature, local or traditional forms of culture and nature are driven out. In Churchill's Fen, Transnational corporations drain water out of the fen in England and change the whole eco-system of fen. It affects the life of fish, animals, plants and people. Some disappear and others are ignored by capitalism. To maximize its profit and production, multi-capital uses management system and technology such as machines. Because of economic development, nature loses its function of healing and the culture of men loses its particularity. Furthermore, like domesticating animals, patriarchal capitalism confines female role as second-rate labor and reproduction. Putting value on motherhood, community oppresses women's autonomy and employs violence against unruly women. Restoring dignity of nature and women is not from religion-sacrifice ritual and baptism. The starting point of an exploitation of ethical alternative is the assertion of the self-healing mechanism of women and nature. Human being should have an attitude to support well-being of biotic community and keep ecological relationship. (Paichai University)

국문 초록 (Abstract)

처칠(Caryl Churchill)의 『습지』는 전지구화 시대의 다국적 자본이 여성과 자연을 어떻게 길들이고 착취하는지를 보여준다. 다국적 자본은 이윤과 생산을 극대화하기 위해서 토지의 형질을 변경함으로써 생태계에 영향을 줄뿐만 아니라 공존하던 인간이 자연을 지배하고 통제하게 한다. 심지어 자본은 기계화를 통해서 자연을 길들이듯 관리시스템의 도입과 젠더에 따른 노동의 분화를 만든다. 가부장적 자본주의는 동물을 사육하여 재생산 기술을 습득하듯 여성의 어머니라는 재생산 기능을 강조함으로써 여성을 억압하고 거부하는 여성에게는 정신적 폭력을 행사하여 종속을 영속화한다. 여성을 구원하는 방법은 세례나 희생 제의 같은 특별한 의식을 통해서가 아니라 자연이 스스로를 치유하듯 여성이 자신의 이야기를 공유하고 연대함으로써 여성 내의 자기 치유의 능력을 끌어내는 데 있다.
