The purpose of this article is to explore the value of coexistence and healing through modern Sijo texts that embrace the climate crisis and polluted ecosystem disturbances and to present a teaching and learning process that expands this idea into practical activities through creative education. To motivate learners, the study aims to get them to recognize and appreciate the reality of the global environment through reading photo-texts, including the documentary Whale and Me, which covers the ecological crisis. The purpose of this article is to raise awareness of the problem that, despite the severity of the ecological crisis, no practical educational method has been proposed for university learners, so examples of learner creation are important.
The teaching and learning process of engaging with videos, photos, and ecological Sijo texts and expanding one's thoughts to induce literary writing was conducted by first selecting the Sijo genre, which has a stronger communication power than prose and is effective in conveying images. Sijo is efficient not only because it allows learners to experience the uniqueness of the format but also because it allows for creation within limited class time. The creation of Sijo, which exhibits powerful communication skills in a small number of languages, is also intended to be widely used in writing classes as a cultural lesson. Through this teaching and learning process, discussions are expected to take place on various teaching and learning methods that will help learners internalize ecological awareness and provide an opportunity for them to think specifically about their lives and the future of the social community, thereby fostering interest in an ecological life.
