‘나만의 것’을 추구하는 컴퓨터교육과 재학생의 소프트웨어 개발 경험에 관한 질적 사례 연구 : 컴퓨팅에 관한 심층 동기와 개인 성장 및 비전을 중심으로 = A qualitative case study of a computer education student's experiences for software development : focused on student's deep motivation toward computing work, personal growth and vision

This paper aims at exploring how the student self is integrated with university life at the college of education by looking into their experiences in computing. Through this study we intend to understand the practices of a unique student who wants to 'pursue his own thing' in both assembling PC and implementing his own ideas with computer programming. We adopted an essentialist methodology using in-depth interviews. We conducted basic and in-depth interviews with Sangwoo Kim who is enrolled in Computer Education department during March 2010 and October 2010. Our concern was to investigate how he developed his inner faculties along with his personal growth and future vision. We tried to qualitatively describe integrated ways in which his personal involvement with computing affects his motivation, academic efforts and passion toward becoming a leading software developer instead of becoming a teacher.
This story shows how a college student who wanted to become a teacher instead pursues his inner dream inside the computing world where he can implement 'his own thing' freely and creatively. After shifting his interests from PC assembly to software development, he could feel fulfillment, passion and his own vision toward becoming a leading software developer in the future. Overall, this portrait illustrates how inner aspects of subjective experiences on computing work were integrated and unified within himself. We discussed the student's inner faculties as part of the student's unity and reviewed computing as motivation with other studies.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 컴퓨터교육과에 재학 중인 대학생의 진학 동기와 전공 지식의 습득 과정에서 나타나는 컴퓨팅과의 관계 속에서 자신의 역량을 어떻게 쌓아가는 지에 대한 전문성 발달 양상을 질적으로 탐구함으로써 컴퓨터교육과 재학생의 삶을 깊이 있게 이해하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 비수도권 S대학의 사범대학 컴퓨터교육 전공 4학년 학생 김상우를 대상으로 2010년 3월부터 2010년 10월 사이에 본질주의적 심층면담을 4회 실시하여 질적 사례 연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구에서 우리는 전사 자료를 코딩한 결과에 따라 연구자의 눈을 통해 내면의 세계를 조망한 후에 초상화 기법에 터하여 입체적인 묘사를 시도하였다.
이 이야기는 김상우가 고등학교 시절부터 컴퓨터 하드웨어를 조립해 본 경험이 어떻게 증폭되어 컴퓨팅에 대한 깊숙한 부분까지 연결되는지 보여준다. 그가 사범대학에 진학 한 후에 자신만의 고유한 아이디어에 따라 컴퓨터를 조립한 경험에서 느꼈던 성취감이 점점 식어가게 되고 대신에 자신의 아이디어대로 새로운 것을 만들어나가는 소프트웨어 작업에서 만족감과 희열을 더 느끼게 되었다. 냉엄한 현실을 고려하여 컴퓨터교사의 꿈을 접고 소프트웨어 개발자가 되기로 진로를 결정한 그가 느꼈던 컴퓨팅에 대한 매력, 전공공부의 즐거움, 소프트웨어 개발 경험에 대한 희열과 진로에 대한 비전 등을 유기적으로 묘사하였다. 마지막으로 컴퓨팅, 학업과 개인 성장이 사범대학생 자신의 내적 역량과 어떻게 통합되는지에 관하여 논의하였으며 진학 동기로서의 컴퓨팅에 관하여 고찰하였다.
