      Caffeine has known ergogenic effects, some of which have been observed during isomeric contraction. We used 10 squash players(19.6±2.83yr, 62.4±6.05㎏) in a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, crossover design to experiment caffeine's ergogenic effects on maximal isometric strength on chest and leg. Subjects performed maximal isometric contractions of the chest press and leg extension 1 h after oral caffeine administration(6㎎/㎏). There were no significant differences between any of the treatments in maximal isometric strength on chest press(p=.821). Whereas there was a significant difference between treatments on leg extension(p=.025). This result from between treatments caffeine and control(p=.037). So our results support the contention that supplementation with caffeine will increase maximal isometric strength on not chest but leg extensor and future studies should examine these issues, in addition to testing the acute effects of various caffeine doses on performance during maximal strength, power, and aerobic activities.
