한국 IT 산업의 대미국 무역 경쟁력에 관한 연구 = A Study on the Export Competitiveness of Korea to USA in IT Industry

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to assess and compare the trade competitiveness of Korea with the United States relative to the IT industry from 2005 to 2016 in order to draw policy implications for strengthening trade competitiveness by using Trade Specification Index (TSI) and Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA). Results are as follows. First, while the Korean IT industry’s exports to the United States over the study period decreased, its imports showed a tendency to rise. The weight of the IT industry in Korea’s total exports and imports showed an upward trend, recording 19 percent export and 15 percent import in 2016. On the other hand, only the share of imports in the United States showed an increasing trend. Second, the trade competitiveness of Korea relative to the United States as far as IT industry is concerned was shown to be higher in 2016 than in 2011. Overall trade competitiveness of broadcasting apparatus in Korea increased in terms of HS coded six items. Finally, it was found that the competitiveness of broadcasting apparatus, communication apparatus, parts and information apparatus was enhanced. Specially, the competitiveness of manual parts of broadcasting apparatus, wireless communication apparatus and semi-conductors for parts were found to be highly competitive among them.
