The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediated role of everyday creativity on relations between self-leadership and career preparation behavior of university students in South Korea. The research questions were set up as follows. First, are there any relations among self-leadership, everyday creativity, and career preparation behavior of university students in South Korea? Second, are there mediation effects of everyday creativity on relations between self-leadership and career preparation behavior?
The participants of this study were 398 (male=164 and female=234) college students in Busan and Seoul, South Korea. The students completed a set of questionnaire to assess their self-leadership, everyday creativity, and career preparation behavior. Three measurement instruments were employed: the Revised Self-Leadership Questionnaire, the Everyday Creativity Scale, and the Career Preparation Behavior Scale. Correlation analyses, standard and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted.
Results showed as follows: first, there were significant correlations among self-leadership, everyday creativity, and career preparation behavior of university students. Furthermore, almost all of the components of self-leadership, everyday creativity, and career preparation were positively correlated. Second, everyday creativity partially mediated the effect of self-leadership on the career preparation behavior of university students. It explains that career preparation behavior of university students tends to be strong when everyday creativity and self-leadership are facilitated. Third, components of everyday creativity, specifically, unique flexibility, alternative problem solving skills and inquiring immersion partially mediated the effect of self-leadership on the career preparation behavior of university students. To sum up, it is suggested that everyday creativity and self-leadership are significant factors to activate the career preparation behavior for university students. In addition, everyday creativity, especially unique flexibility, alternative problem solving skills and inquiring immersion, needs to be considered as the crucial factor when the career preparation program or consulting is planned for university students. Based on the research result, the findings underscore the importance of incorporating how to increase and activate everyday creativity into the intervention for university students' career preparation behavior.
