요르단 거주 시리아 난민의 외상경험과 정신건강 실태 = Traumatic Experiences and Mental Health of Syrian Refugees in Jordan

This study examined the type and prevalence of traumatic experience of Syrian refugees in Jordan and its effects on their mental health. The results showed that 92.9% of a total of 183 participants experienced at least one traumatic event and an average of 8.71 traumatic events. Among the traumatic events frequently experienced were ‘property loss or destroyed(78.1%)’, ‘night raids(78.1%)’, ‘witness murder or physical abuse(62.3%)’, and ‘being forced to flee(62.3%).’ Second, participants originated from Deraa or Homs experienced more traumatic events than those from Damascus or other regions, and participants dependent on aid or none experienced more events than those on their own jobs or relatives/friends. Third, participants showed the high prevalence rates of post-traumatic stress disorder(51.9%), anxiety(44.3%), and depression(48.1%). Fourth, all of the mental health outcomes(PTSD, anxiety, depression, somatization, and hostility) except post-traumatic growth were significantly affected by the number of traumatic events experienced. Lastly, the implications and limitations of these findings were discussed in the context of refugee support.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 요르단에 거주하는 시리아 난민 183명을 대상으로 외상경험과 정신건강 실태조사결과를 분석했다. 분석결과 첫째, 연구참가자의 92.9%가 한건이상의 외상사건을 경험했으며 평균적으로 8.71건의 외상사건을 경험했다고 답했다. 연구참가자 중 많은 수가 경험했다고 답한 외상사건으로는 자기재산을 잃거나 파괴당함(78.1%), 야간급습(78.1%), 살해 또는 신체적 학대를 목격함(62.3%), 강제로 쫓겨남(62.3%)이 있다. 둘째, 시리아의 다라와 홈스에 거주했던 난민들이 다마스쿠스나 그외 지역의 난민들보다 더 많은 외상사건을 경험했으며, 현재 생계수단이 없거나 구호에 의존하는 난민들이 직장이 있거나 친척이나 친구의 도움을 받고 있는 난민들보다 외상사건의 경험빈도가 높은 경향이 나타났다. 셋째, 연구참가자 중 외상후 스트레스 위험군은 51.9%, 불안증상 위험군은 44.3%, 우울증상 위험군은 48.1%로 나타났으며, 넷째, 외상사건 경험빈도는 외상후성장을 제외하고 외상후 스트레스, 불안, 우울, 신체화 증상, 적대감에 모두 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다. 마지막으로 효과적인 난민지원의 측면에서 본 연구결과의 시사점과 제한점을 논의하였다.
