This study analyzes the transformation of photographic acts and the production of photographic images in the context of a changing digital environment through the concept of “meta-photography.” Emerging photographic practices across digital map platforms, virtual world platforms, and generative AI platforms are expanding the traditional notion of photography. On digital map platforms, photographic acts involve selecting and storing images from databases; in virtual world platforms, photographic creation occurs through avatars and digital spaces; and generative AI reconstructs the concept of photography by producing data-driven images of scenes that do not exist in reality. This research examines how these changes in photographic acts and the production of photographic images impact photographic art and proposes that meta-photography can serve as a valid theoretical framework for interpreting contemporary visual culture.
