More than 3,400 schools were became closed school in South Korea since 1982. But a study for the closed school`s spatial distribution and the usage in connection with location information is weak. So this study is ffocuses on the analysis of closed school`s distribution and usage using GIS-based spatial analysis. Closed schools have diversity in the location and use, depending on the time and place. Closed schools are first occurred mostly in the inland and after they are spread to the coastal areas. Geographically they were positioning mainly in the administrative district boundaries or far away from the metropolitan area. Closed schools are being most frequently reused by residents.
