The scientific preservation of cultural assets began in the middle of 20th century in Europe. Korea introduced conservation science to the excavated relics in Anapji, Gyeongju in 1976. In 2003, resin technique had been used for restoring Gukrak-Pavilion of Bongjung-Temple, Andong, but at this distance of 8years, it is in danger of collapse because the wooden is out of the line and the girders are broken. As seeing the case of Gukrak-Pavilion of Bongjung-Temple, Korea needs to develop the technology of restoration. It has to apply properly to the traditional technology and the scientific technology for restoring to its own figure. And then it may turn over to descendants, so it can transfer the pride of people and the cultural excellent. The week point for preservation of our cultural assets and restoration is people’s lower cognition for cultural assets, poor study of the government, preservation and management and a shortage of professional technicians.
The solution for this week point is to train the professional technicians, to have a high level of training for cultural assets, to develop conservation science of cultural assets, and to be supported by the protection policy of cultural assets in the government and a local government. And then it can help to preserve our important cultural assets, additionally, Korean status will be improved.
