Tadao Ando의 건축세계에 관한 연구 = A Study on Tadao Ando's Architectural World

Tadao Ando is one of the contemporary Japanese architects who is trying to develop a new style of Japaness architecture with traditional Japaness spirit and new western technology.
This study is to analize Tadao Ando's works how to succeed to the tradition of Japanes Architecture and how to hamonize the new western architecture with it.
Ando's architectural concepts in his works are as following.
1. Traditionally Japanese culture evolued from the in the intimate relationship of the Japanese to nature. So Ando grew up in this cultural background. He always uses courtyard one of his main design elements, to give a close relationship between nature and man.
2. Light is introduced into the courtyard. By using the light, the concerte, his major naterial, does not creat the feeling of weight.
3. Austerity which is one of the character of traditional Japanese spirit affects him to use the limited number of material and the restricted architectural forms.
4. The fundamental characteristic of Ando's method of articulating the territory of the sife is the basic concept of the closed/open pair.
5. As a result of Ando's skillful handling of modern material, concrete, and traditional Japaness emotion, the relationships exist between man and nature, between nature and architecture, between man and architecture, and finally between man and man.
With these concepts, Tadao Ando tries to continue tradition not imitating but using Japanese emotional sensitivity to daily life.
The above study is made hoping that it will help succeed to the tradition of Korean Modern architecture.
