In Korea, Chonggaetang Jung zisung's()poems havent's received a high rank in the study of Chinese poems. In addition, he had no official position in his society, so that his life has been almost unknown. But I want to analyze and re-evaluate his poems in this thesis.
First of all, I portayed briefly his life and some episodes of his to make his unknown life and his poems understood. In this study, it can be clear that he was a genius poet. Especially he wrote the excellent Tang poems which would stand good comparison with the poems of three Tang-Styles poets. So I am convinced that he was a momentous poet of Tang poetic style in the late sixteenth century. Even though his poems were not creative but imitative, they have showed many best characteristics of Tang poems in mood and rhythm. For this reason, Wang Sajung(), Sim Duckjam(), and Ju Yizone() has selected his poems in their anthologies in the age of early Chung() dynasty. Besides ones with Tang poetic style, some critics set a high value on a lot of his poems.
His poems are melancholy and dark generally. Sometimes, they show regret and loneliness, grief and lament. And in most of his poems, he wnats to stand aloof from the world though those poems are high spirited. I think that his unlucky life was reflected in his poems.
Even though he didn't write many poems, I think that he has to be appraised as the important Tang poet in the sixteenth century with Lee Dahl(), Choe Kyungchang(), and Beck Kwanghoon() because of high elegance and excellent Tang poetic style in his poems.
