The WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technologies allow multiple lasers carrying independent signals to be transmitted in the same fiber with appropriate spacings of wavelengths between laser carriers. This paper is focuses on a design framework for 0AM(Operation, Administration and Maintenance) on which we can build a reliable photonic network considering WDM technologies.
We propose the maintenance actions for the improvement of safety and performance of the optical network management based on the WDM. We introduce system and network surveillance, operation and maintenance functions based on proposed alarm propagation model. For network maintenance, clear maintenance indication such as FDI and BDI is made to facilitate accurate and smooth failure localization. Also, for system maintenance, necessary maintenance items are defined, and a maintenance signal flow is proposed at the level of each optical transport network layer.
