19세기 중반부터 20세기 초반의 가톨릭 성가를 통한 한국의 서양음악 수용

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 19세기 중반부터 20세기 초반까지 한국의 서양음악 수용과정에서 가톨릭 성가의 영 향으로 인해 발생한 사회 및 문화적 변화를 다루고 있다. 한국은 가톨릭교회가 자생적으로 발전 하였으며, 17세기에 중국에서 가져온 서적을 통하여 가톨릭 성가와 서양의 음악 문화를 이미 경 험했다. 이를 통하여 19세기 중반부터 20세기 초에는 성가의 교육을 통해 서양음악이 본격적으로 수용되었다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이에 따라 한국의 음악 문화와 교육 분야에는 많은 변화가 일어났 으며, 본 연구에서는 해당 변화의 이해를 돕기 위해 중국과 일본의 경우를 비교, 분석하였다. 중 국과 일본은 가톨릭 성가를 통한 서양음악의 수용과정에서 적극적인 자세를 취했고, 이를 통해 음악교육과 예술 분야에서 깊고 빠른 변화를 가져왔다. 이 사례를 통하여 한국 음악 문화의 잠재 적 발전 가능성과 나아갈 방향을 파악할 수 있었으며, 그 방안으로는 가톨릭 성가를 비롯한 교회 음악의 문화유산을 존중하면서도 창의적이고 현대적인 한국 문화의 변화를 추구해야 한다는 결 론을 도출하였다. 이를 위해서는 한국의 다양한 음악 문화유산을 기반으로 한 독자적인 발전을 모색하여야 한다. 본 연구가 음악 문화의 발전과 국제적인 교류, 한국 가톨릭 전례음악의 발전에 관심 있는 연구자와 관련분야의 전문가들에게 유익한 지식과 통찰력을 제공하기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study deals with social and cultural changes that occurred due to the influence of Catholic hymns in the process of accepting Western music in Korea from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century. Meanwhile, the Catholic Church in Korea is the only self-developed Catholic church in the world, and the hymn occupies an important position in the traditional Catholic worship ritual. According to Korean Catholic Church history, Korea had already experienced Catholic chants and Western music culture through books brought from China in the 17th century, and Western music was fully accepted through the education of chants in the mid-19th and early 20th centuries. As a result, many changes have occurred in Korean music culture and education, and this study compared and analyzed the cases of China and Japan to help understand the changes. As a result, China and Japan took an active attitude in the process of accepting Western music through Catholic chants, resulting in deep and rapid changes in music education and art. Through this case, the potential development potential and direction of Korean music culture were identified, and it was concluded that the solution should be to pursue creative and modern Korean culture while respecting the cultural heritage of church music, including Catholic chants. To this end, it is necessary to seek independent development based on various Korean musical cultural heritages, and it is expected that Korean music culture will receive international attention and recognition when such efforts continue. Therefore, this study is expected to provide useful knowledge and insights to researchers and experts in related fields interested in the development of music culture, international exchange, and the development of Korean Catholic precedent music.
