건화물 시장 운임과 신조, 중고, 해체 선가와의 동태적 관계에 관한 실증분석 = An empirical study on the dynamic relationship between freight and vessel prices of new-build, second-hand and demolition vessels in dry bulk market

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 건화물 해운시장의 운임과 선박의 수명주기에 걸친 선가와의 동태적인 관계를 분석하고자 하였다. 건화물 시장에서의 운임은 높은 변동성을 가지면서 선박의 수명주기를 따라 지속적으로 영향을 미친다. 이러한 건화물 시장에 내재된 다양한 위험을 관리하기 위해서는 운임과 선가 사이의 상호작용을 선박의 수명주기라는 관점에서 규명할 필요가 있다. 이를 위해 시차상관분석, 적정시차기준 설정, 공적분검정, 그랜저인과간계 검정, 충격반응함수 분석 등의 실증분석을 수행하였다. 그 결과 운임과 선박의 수명주기에는 순차적인 시차가 존재하고, 운임과 신조선가 및 중고선가 사이에는 장기균형관계가 존재한다는 사실을 확인하였다. 그랜저인과관계 분석결과는 운임과 선가 사이에 인과관계가 있음을 보였고, 충격반응함수 분석결과 운임이정(+)의 방향으로 3~4개월간 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이들 결과는 건화물시장에서 선박의 신조부터 해체까지 전 수명주기에 걸친 운임의 변동성을 관리하는데 필요한 시사점을 제공한다.

This study aims to analyze the dynamic relationship between freight earnings and vessel prices throughout their lifecycle, in the dry bulk market. Freight has high volatility that affects a vessel’s price. To manage risks underlying within the dry bulk market, the interaction between freight and vessel’s price has to be come across in the sense of vessel’s lifecycle. This study uses empirical examinations, like cross correlation analysis, co-integration test, granger causality test and impulse response analysis to derive meaningful relationships from time serial law data. Results revealed a sequential time lag between freight and vessel lifecycle, and a long-term relationship between freight, and prices of new-builds and second-hand vessels. The granger causality analysis revealed a causal relationship between freight and vessel price. The impulse response analysis demonstrated that freight impact is positive for three to four months. Based on these results, this study provides insights to manage volatility, throughout vessel lifecycles from new-build to demolition, in the dry bulk market.
