명랑(明朗)의 문두루법과 진호국가밀교 = The Mudra Ceremony and life of Master Meungrang

국문 초록 (Abstract)

明朗은 신라에 본격적으로 초기밀교를 수용한 인물로 알려져 있다. 문두루(Mudra)법을 設壇하여 唐兵을 퇴치하는 삼국통일의 정신적인 기반을 만들었다. 이후 사천왕사를 세우고 神印法을 전하여 신라에 밀교가 정착하는 계기가 되었다.
명랑 이전에도 신라 불교수용 과정에서 나타나는 阿道와 墨胡子 등의 治病의 행적과 圓光과 安弘의 활약에서도 초기밀교의 흔적을 발견할 수 있다. 특히 안홍은 초기 밀교 경 전으로 보이는『전단향화 성광묘녀경』을 역출하였고，사천왕사의 건립을 예언한 선구적인 密 敎家로 보인다. 안홍의 예언에 부합하여 명랑의 문두루법은 기존의 치병을 위주로 한 개인적인 영역을 넘어 진호국가밀교의 정신으로 확대되었다.
문두루법의 경전근거는 『관정경』 제7권에서 作法의 이름과 내용을 발견할 수 있지만 경전 내용이 그대로 진행된 것으로 보이지 않는다. 오히려 『金光明經』의 사천왕 신앙을 중심에 두고，기존의 고대신앙을 수용한 『관정경』 제7권의 내용을 함께 활용하여 밀교의 례를 집행한 것으로 보인다.
본 연구에서는 명랑의 문두루법의 배경이 되는 당시 신라사회의 밀교 수용의 과정과 안흥을 통한 초기 밀교의 사상적인 영향을 알아 보았다. 또한 명랑의 문두루법의 작법의례와 관련한 『관정경』의 내용과 사상ㆍ적인 배경이 되는 사천왕 신앙과의 관련성에 대하여 알아 보고，현존하는 사천왕사의 유적 중에서 밀교의례에 활용된 것으로 보이는 鎭函壇의 의미와 활용 등에 대하여 정리하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

It is known that Meungrang actively accepted Early Esoteric Buddhism in Silla dynasty. Meungrang founded mental base for unification of The three countries to defeat Tang army(唐兵), building stage for the first time in Silla and conducting Mudra ceremony. And he founded Sachunwang Temple and spreaded Sinin Teaching(神印法) so that this became an opportunity to establish Esoteric Buddhism in Silla.
Before Meungrang, there was record that masters Ado(阿道) and Mukhoja(墨胡子) etc. cured a disease in the process of accepting Buddhism in Silla. Traces of Early Esoteric Buddhism cab be found in the life of master Wonkwang(圓光) and master Anhong(安弘). Especially, Anhong translated sutras of Early Esoteric Buddhism. It seems that he was a pioneer master of Esoteric Buddhism(密敎家) who predicted foundation of Sachunwang Temple.
Like prophecy of master Anhong, Mudra ceremony of Meungrang expanded to a spirit to defend the nation going beyond existing personal category to cure a disease.
As for ground in sutra of Mudra ceremony, name and content of ceremony can be found on the 7th volume of Sutra of Coronation(灌頂經). But ceremony was not conducted according to content in the sutra by hundred percent. Rather, the ceremony was progressed focusing on religion depending on Lokapala in the Suvanaprabhasottamaraja-Sutra (金光明經). Ceremony of Esoteric Buddhism was made, using content in the 7th volume of Sutra of Coronation which accepted existing ancient religion together.
The study looked into process of accepting Esoteric Buddhism in Silla society in then times which is background of Mudra ceremony of Meungrang, and influences in thoughts of Esoteric Buddhism through master Anhong. The author also studied relationship between content of Sutra of Coronation related to Mudra ceremony of Meungrang and Lokapala faith which is background in thoughts. And the study summarized meaning and use of stage for defending nation which seems to be used in ceremony of Esoteric Buddhism among extant relics of Sachunwang Temple.
