At the outset of my attempt to present a thesis involving a comparative perspective on Korean and Canadian poetry, I must confess that I am not a specialist either of Korean or of Canadian poetry. The only justification for my being here is that I have been a student of English literature for more than three decades, and in the meantime, I, a Korean and a student of literature, have naturally felt the moral obligation to remain aware of the literary heritage of my nation and to co-relate it to Western literature.
