중년기 장기결혼 유지 경험에 관한 내러티브 탐구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 20년 이상 장기결혼을 유지하고 있는 중년기 남녀의 결혼생활 경험을 내러티브 탐구를 통해 심층적으로 이해하고, 그 의미를 분석하고자 하였다. 연구참여자는 초혼 후 결혼생활을 20년 이상 지속하며 자녀를 둔 중년기 남녀 6명으로 구성되었다. 자료는 심층 면담, 연구자 일지, 참여자 소감을 포함한 텍스트를 통해 수집되었고, Clandinin과 Connelly의 3차원 탐구 틀을 바탕으로 분석되었다. 그 결과 결혼생활은 ‘닻을 올리고 출항’, ‘바다 한가운데’, ‘풍랑과 거친 파도를 헤치며’, ‘정박: 끝이 아닌 시작으로’ 네 단계의 항해 은유로 구성되었으며, 각 단계는 결혼 초기 적응, 자녀 양육, 위기 극복, 중년기 재정립의 의미를 반영한다. 본 연구는 중년기 부부관계에 대한 이해와 가족상담 및 교육에 실천적 시사점을 제공한다.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the experiences of middle-aged men and women who have maintained long-term marriages for over 20 years and to analyze the meanings of those experiences using narrative inquiry. Methods: Six participants, all in their first marriage and part of a nuclear family with children, were selected. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, researcher journals, and participant reflections. Analysis was conducted based on Clandinin and Connelly’s (2006) three-dimensional narrative inquiry framework exploring temporality, sociality, and place. Results: Participants’ experiences were structured metaphorically as a journeyof navigation, with four phases: raising the anchor and setting sail in the middle of the ocean overcoming storms and rough waves, and anchorage: not the end, but the beginning. These phases reflected marital adaptation, childrearing, crisis resolution, and relationship redefinition in later life. Conclusions: The study provides insights into the dynamics of long-term marriage in middle-aged adults and offers practical implications for marital counseling and education. It also lays a foundation for future studies on marital maintenance and family resilience.
