East Asia’s Diverging CSR = 한국과 중국 기업의 CSR 커뮤니케이션 비교 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국과 중국 대기업의 인터넷 사용을 조사하여 기업의 사회적 책임(CSR) 활동에 대한 기업 커뮤니케이션을 비교하였다. 분석 대상은 포브스 글로벌 2000(Forbes Global 2000)에 등재된 67개 한국 기업과 200개 중국 기업이었으며, 조사 결과 두 국가의 CSR 커뮤니케이션이 크게 다른 것으로 나타났다. 한국 기업은 중국 기업에 비해 CSR 정보를 보다 명시적으로 배치하고 국제표준을 따르는 경향이 있는 반면, 중국 기업은 회사 웹 사이트보다 상하이 선전 등의 증권 거래소에 더 많은 정보를 공개하고 CSR 보고서 작성에 있어서 정부가 발행한 가이드라인을 준수하는 경향이 파악되었다. 한국과 중국 기업의 이러한 차이는 기업 거버넌스의 제도적 요인에 기인한다고 본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study investigates internet use by the largest companies based in South Korea (Korea) and China to communicate their engagement in corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. We analyze to what extent, if any, their CSR communication on web sites differ. Based on data from sixty-seven Korean companies and two-hundred Chinese companies listed in Forbes Global 2000, we found that the two countries’ CSR communication diverged significantly. Findings suggest that companies from Korea place social responsibility information more prominently and follow globally established standards. Chinese companies disclose more information in stock exchange than company web sites and follow government issued guidelines. We believe institutional context of corporate governance is responsible for such divergence.
