This research is to identify influential factors associated with alcoholic patient's quality of life and solutions to improve their life. 233 alcoholic in-patients in psychiatric hospitals located in Daegu, Ulsan, and Kyungpook areas responded to self questionnaires for this study.
The results of this study are as follows.
1. The average point of alcoholic’s Quality of Life degree was 78.86(SD=23.65) which was lower than medium point of 99. About 81.5% of the respondents did not reach the medium point of 99.
2. The study indicated that Depression level, abstinence self-efficacy, active way of coping, stress level, family support, and family function were significantly associated with quality of life
3. Unified model which included all the factors applied in this study explained 40.2% of the dependent variable. (F=9.334, p<.001). The strongest factor was active way of coping(β=.236) followed by abstinence self-efficacy(β=.180), family function(β=.161), stress level(β=-.159) and depression(β=-.150).
Based on the results of this study, it is suggested that we need to support alcoholics to rediscover the value of their lives and reconstruct self-concepts by assisting them to improve abstinence self-efficacy. Also, family counseling programs that help recover the relationships between alcoholics and their families should be provided.
