모티프 라이팅(Motif Writing)의 활용을 통한 ADHD 아동의 무용교육 = The Application of Motif Writing as a Dance Educational Tool for ADHD Children

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 1950년대, 루돌프 폰 라반(Rudolf von Laban)의 제자였던 앤 허친슨 게스트(Ann Hutchinson Guest)와 발레리 프레스톤 던롭(Valerie Preston-Dunlop)에 의해 창안된 동작 기보법인 모티프 라이팅(Motif Writing)이 ADHD(Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, 주의력-결핍 과잉 행동 장애)아동의 무용교육에 미치는 영향을 살펴보는데 그 목적이 있다. 역사적으로 어린이 무용교육을 위해 개발된 모티프 라이팅은 영국과 미국의 공립학교 교육에 있어서 움직임의 탐구, 창작, 분석, 그리고 무용기록의 수단으로 폭 넓게 사용되어져 왔다. 우리나라에도 최근에 모티프 라이팅의 교육적인 효과를 인식하면서 점차적으로 창의적인 교육방법론의 하나로 자리잡아 가고 있는 실정이다. 이 연구는 모티프 라이팅을 통한 특수 체육 및 무용교육의 새로운 교육 방법론을 제시함은 물론 특수 아동의 무용교육과 더 나아가 무용, 동작치료연구의 새로운 접근이라는 점에서 그 의미와 중요성이 있다. 연구방법은 발달 장애 교육센터에 근무하고 있는 교사에게 모티프 라이팅에 관한 교육을 실시한 후, ADHD 아동(만 10세, 男)의 개별 특수 체육수업에 이를 적용시켜보았다. 실험기간은 10주간(주 2회, 1회 수업시간은 40분)이었으며, 자료수집은 교사의 개인 수업일지 및 인터뷰(open-ended interview)를 통한 방법을 사용하였다. 이 연구의 결과에 따르면, 모티프 라이팅은 ADHD 아동의 무용교육적 측면과 치료적 측면에서 긍정적인 효과를 가져왔다. 우선, 교육적 측면에서는 모티프 라이팅의 기호들을 이해하고 그것들을 움직임으로 표현할 수 있게 되었고, 창의적인 활동을 통한 자신감을 향상시킬 수 있었다. 그리고 기호를 사용한 다양한 동작표현이 가능하게 되었고, 무용동작의 특징을 이해하고 스스로 동작에 대한 의미를 부여할 수 있는 능력을 키울 수 있었다. 치료적 측면에서는 정서적 안정을 비롯하여 과잉행동, 틱장애로 인한 문제행동이 줄어들었으며, 주의집중시간이 향상되었다. 또한, 기호를 인지하고 행동함으로 인하여 신체와 정신의 통합으로 이끌 수 있는 계기가 되었다. 앞으로 특수아동의 무용교육에 있어서 모티프 라이팅의 적용은 연령, 인지능력, 신체능력을 고려한 체계적인 교육프로그램 개발이 시급하며, 모티프 라이팅을 통하여 비 장애아동 뿐만 아니라 장애를 갖고 있는 모든 어린이들이 함께 움직임의 세계를 경험할 수 있기를 기대해 본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine the possibility of Motif Writing for ADHD children' dance education in terms of dance educational and therapeutic perspectives. This study was conducted during two and half month period in the Baromsaerom Developmental Disorder Center with an ADHD student and a veteran special education teacher. Since the 1950's, Motif Writing, a dance notation system for children, has been applied into dance education, especially, in the fields of choreography, dance analysis and dance literacy in the United Kingdom and the United States. In recent years, Motif Writing as a pedagogical tool as well as means of inspiring teachers and students has begun to be a focus in special education. In the field of special education, in spite of the potential significant effects of dance, dance is dealt with as an extra or quasi curricular subject not as dance itself or as a primary curricular subject, the same as in public education in Korea. However, dance education through Motif Writing can offer more than dance educational effects per se. It has therapeutic effects as well as educational effects. This paper is addressed to professionals in the fields of special education, physical education, and dance education with the goal of expanding their therapeutic or educational interest and their understanding of movement experience through Motif Writing. Part 1 covers the goals of research and method. Part 2 presents the concept of ADHD, and Part 3 covers the history and concept of Motif Writing. In Part 4, the result of research as the application of Motif Writing for ADHD children will be investigated. Finally, the conclusion and some suggestions for special education will be presented.
