근대 문화유산 관련 담론을 통해 본 도시 정체성의 형성과 변화－개항도시 목포의 사례－ = The Formation and Transformation of Urban Identity With Special Reference to Discourses on Modern Cultural Heritage－The Case Study of Mokpo City, Korea－

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper is to examine the cultural characteristics and meanings of the formational and transformation of urban identity with special reference to discourses on modern cultural heritage in contemporary Mokpo city, which is located in southwestern area of Korea Peninsular. It has been related to the theme of the reconstruction of colonial memory in treaty port city like Mokpo. Furthermore, this study to investigate the process of representation of the past colonial memory from the perspective of present of treaty port city which has been experienced the colonial past, can be regarded as one of the theoretical and practical works to examine cultural characteristics and meanings of urban identity in Mokpo city in cultural context.
Recently, several NGOs(Non-Governmental Organizations) in Mokpo city contested on the problems of removal of modern cultural heritage with one another competitively. The competition among these NGOs was expressed as the critical languages such as 'modern', 'culture', 'cultural heritage', 'urban development', 'conservation', 'removal'. However, there was in some disputes on how much opinions of Mokpo people had been accepted in these discourses on modern cultural heritage in Mokpo city.
This paper is to analyze the cultural characteristics and meanings of urban identity in Mokpo city with special reference to the discourses on modern cultural heritage. These discourses are considered as the part of cultural resources of Mokpo people. In this paper, I investigate the processes of 'making culture' of urban identity to represent the past colonial memory in the case of Mokpo city as a colonial treaty port city.
