Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of improvements in sarcopenia in elderly women on dementia-related factors.
Methods: Elderly women were chosen that corresponds to the standard for sarcopenia (handgrip; < 18 kg, 4 m gate speed; > 0.8 m/s, Appendrical skeletal mass index, < 5.7 kg/m2) (Chen et al., 2014).
Results: In Taekwondo group, ASMI (p<.01), Handgrip(p<.05), and BDNF (p<.01) were found to have increased significantly and a significant reduction in 4 m gait speed(p=<.01) and β-amyloid (p<.01) was observed.
Conclusion: Taekwondo and cognitive task programs have been shown to improve the quality of life of elderly women by improving their sarcopenia risk factors, Irisin, β -amyloid, and BDNF.
