이 연구는 선거여론조사의 조사결과가 가진 편향을 가중치를 적용하여 감소시키려 할 때, 그 감소폭이 어느 정도인지 그리고 그 감소폭과 가중변인의 설명력 간의 관계는 어떤지를 알아보았다. 이를 위해 가중변인의 설명력을 여러 수준으로 변화시킨 데이터를 컴퓨터로 생성해서 이를 모집단으로 하였다. 그런 다음 관심변인이 10% 포인트의 편향을 갖도록 표본을 반복해서 추출한 다음, 가중치를 적용했을 때 그 편향이 어느 정도 감소하는지를 산출하였다. 그 결과 비록 가중치를 적용하는 것이 편향을 감소시키는 효과가 있기는 하지만 그 효과가 크지 않은 것으로 나타나, 현실적으로 가중치를 적용해서 편향을 제거하는 것은 어려운 것으로 나타났다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to find out the relationship between explanatory power of weighting variables and dependent variable in the context of election poll. We created a population data using previous survey data in which we created the various weighting variables with different level of explanatory power. From this population data, we selected samples repeatedly which have a 10% point bias. When we applied various weighting variables to this sample, we could get the results which have smaller bias. But the reduction is not so big enough for us to get accurate predictions in actual election.
