C-banding karyotypes of Pinus rigida, P. densiflora and P. thunbergii were investigated.
Somatic chromosome number of three species was found to be 2n=24, and twelve pairs of homologous chromosome were classified on the basis of the number and size of bands, secondary constriction, total length and arm ratio.
The results obtained under this study are summarized as follows; chromosome complements in three species were all metacentric, and the interspecific difference was difficult to identify in the chromosome morphology.
The bands on chromosomes were generally located in the centromere, secondary constriction, and intercalary regions of the long and short arms. The bands were revealed in the all centromeric regions except for a pair of E chromosome in P. rigida. The number of bands revealed on each chromosome was one or two.
