영화「오프닝 나이트 Opening Night」를 통해 본 자기애

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대 소비 산업사회에서 개인들은 전통적인 상징적 가치의 붕괴에 따른 의미의 상실, 공허감 속에 시달리고 있다. 그리고 또한 개인의 가치를 절대화 하면서 타인과 함께 거주하는 세계와의 소통적 관계가 부재한 채 자기애적 과잉 속에 깊이 빠져있다. 논문은 이러한 현대적 상황의 문제성을 자기애라는 키워드로 이해하고자 한다. 존 카사베츠 감독의 영화 「오프닝 나이트」의 여주인공 머틀이 보여주는 서사는 자기 분열로부터 자기회복으로 나아가는 과정을 구체적으로 잘 드러내고 있는 작품이다. 그래서 이 작품을 간접 경험의 텍스트로 삼아 자기애에 대한 이해와 해석의 문제를 논문은 조명하고 있다. 프로이트는 자기애를 대상에 대한 관심과 사랑을 통해 대상을 자아 속에 통합하고자 하는 생 욕동적 관점에서 바라보고 있다. 그러나 동시에 대상에 대한 관심의 철수로부터 자기로의 퇴행을 자기애적 병리의 현상으로 이해하면서 인간들이 삶을 영위하면서 겪게되는 자기애적 상처를 또한 주목하고 있다. 논문은 죽음 욕동과 연관된 부정적 자기애의 현상과 일자로의 통합을 추구하는 생 욕동의 자기애 사이의 긴장관계로부터 인간의 자기에 대한 반성적 거리의 확보가 치료에 있어서 중요한 문제임을 고찰하고 있다. 그리고 논문은 자기애가 단순히 병리적 현상으로 바라보아야 할 문제가 아님을 주장하고 있다. 오히려 모든 인간의 탄생과 발달과정에서 자기애가 정당하게 소유되어지는 인간의 심리내적 기제라는 사실이다. 자기애의 문제는 현실 원칙, 정신분석학적 의미에서의 대상, 자기애의 중심으로서의 자아 그리고 생 욕동과 죽음 욕동의 모순적 관계 등을 복합적으로 이해해야할 개념이며 논문은 머틀이 보여주는 서사를 중심으로 이러한 개념들을 이론적으로 검토하고 제시하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In the contemporary society of consumption. the individual suffers from the loss of the sense(direction) and the emptiness because of the collapse of the traditional symbolic value. By over-valuing the individual. they are also got by the narcissistic expansion in the absence of the communication with the world which exists with the others. This article tries to understand the problematic of this contemporary situation from the concept of narcissism. The main character Myrtle in the movie Opening Night. realized by John Cassavetes in 1978. shows us the process from the split of the 'me' to its restoration. It is the narrative which does well to think about the narcissism. By taking this text as our indirect experience of therapy. we thus wonder how to seize and to interpreter the problematics around the concept 'narcissism'. Sigmund Freud took the narcissism for the fact that the 'me' unifies in the One connected to the drive of life. This one aims at the love of the object.
But he also examined the narcissism as the retreat towards the 'me' which is characterized by the refusal of the love of the object. We often say this pathology as narcissistic wound. Our article claims on the importance of the reflexive distance. This reflexive distance is the effort between the drive of life which aims at the unification of the ONE and the drive of death as negative narcissism. We see that the narcissism is not the pathological phenomenon. Rather that it is the universal instance which we could seize everywhere in the birth of the man and also in his development. The problematic of the narcissism was bound in the principle of the reality. in the object in a psychoanalytical sense and in the me as the center of the narcissism. We examine this constellation of the notions around the narrative of Opening Night. In conclusion. we propose that it is necessary to understand the complexional. conflicting and even contradictory tension between the drive of life and the drive of death.
