The United Kingdom is regarded as one of model-countries in support of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, although she appears to still have some problematic child policy.
This study attempts to analyses the experience of U.K. in response to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child , focusing on the development of children' s rights monitering system in U.K.i.e. how U.K. govemment has implementedto the suggestionsof theUN Committee on the Rights of the Child in relation to the U.K. government’ s second report since having ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child andhow nongovemmentalorganizationshave workedfor improving the children' s rights in U.K. Even though the CRC allocated the article s of the Convention into eight clusters, this study examines five clusters based on progress reports on implementation. In five different scales of analysis, this study questions the legitimacy of current U.K. child policy, critically reporting key developments in children’ shuman rights in U.K. over the past 4 years.
In conclusion, this study suggests having a vision of child citizenship and active participations of nongovernmental organizations and local communities to increase children's rights in Korea.
