문자도의 조형성을 활용한 레터링디자인 수업방안 연구 : 중학교를 중심으로 = Suggestion for Lettering Design Lesson Using Formativeness of Munjado

국문 초록 (Abstract)

문화 향유와 창조의 시대를 살아가는 현대 사회에서는 보다 다채로운 미술 문화가 확산되고 있다. 이러한 미술 문화의 홍수 속에서 전통미술에 대한 관심과 주체적인 태도로 우리의 것을 발전시켜 나아가는 노력이 필요한 실정이다. 전통이란 곧 한 민족의 뿌리와 정체성을 담고 있기에 그 자체로도 뛰어나지만 현대 사회와 적합한 관계에서 지속해갈 때 더욱 빛을 발할 수 있다.
전통미술 중에서도 민화의 문자도는 우리 민족의 정서를 바탕으로 뚜렷한 개성과 독창성을 드러내는 미술이다. 일반적으로 산수화나 문인화에 비해 다소 소박한 형태를 지녔으나, 대담하고 현란한 색채와 구성 양식은 한국적인 미의식을 강하게 나타낸다. 문자도의 종류에는 윤리(효제)문자도, 기원문자도, 길상문자도 등이 있다. 초기에는 조선시대의 유교적 덕목을 널리 알리기 위해 제작되었다가, 이후 민중들의 생활 속에 자리잡게 되었다. 이러한 문자도는 문자와 그림이 자연스럽게 조화되는 표현 방식과 조형성이 나타나는데 이는 곧 레터링디자인으로 연결될 수 있다.
레터링디자인은 문자를 조형하는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 여기서 문자가 나타내는 선이나 형태, 색의 조형 이미지는 시각적 의사소통의 수단으로서 그 의미를 효과적으로 전달해준다. 또한 레터링디자인은 문자에 기능과 동시에 아름다움을 갖춰야 하며 이는 글자의 색채, 구도, 배열 등 조형성의 고려가 필요하다. 이러한 독창성과 차별성을 지닌 글자를 만드는 레터링디자인은 기업, 상품, 단체의 상징이 되기도 한다. 문자의 이미지가 지닌 시각적인 특성을 효과적으로 발현하여 광고나 브랜드 상품에 긍정적 영향을 불러일으킨다.
따라서 전통미술의 현대적 표현을 통한 디자인 수업은 학생들로 하여금 우리 미술 문화에 대한 정체성을 일깨워 주며 다양한 생각과 느낌을 창의적으로 표현하도록 한다. 진부하게 느꼈던 전통미술을 새로운 시각에서 받아들이게 하며, 학습 내용을 토대로 각자 창의적인 방법을 시도하고 자신의 개성을 표현하는 효과적인 미술 활동이 될 수 있다.
이에 본 논문은 한국적 조형미를 가진 문자도의 양식을 현대의 생활과 연결하고자 한다. 과거에 이루어진 문자도의 전통적인 표현 방식을 이해하며 이를 바탕으로 보다 친숙한 레터링디자인으로 표현될 수 있다. 문자도의 조형적 특성을 레터링디자인에 접목시켜 독특한 미감을 발현하는 미술 수업 방안을 제시하고, 나아가 우리 미술 문화에 대한 이해와 옛것을 새롭게 창조하는 태도 및 능력을 개발하는 기회가 되기를 바란다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Versatile culture of art is spreading in modern society called the age of cultural enjoyment and creation. Therefore, it requires an effort to develop and renew the value and uniqueness of traditional art in flood of culture of art. Tradition by itself is important in that it includes its national root and identity but it becomes even more valuable when it maintains a proper relationship with the present society.
Munjado is especially popular among Korean traditional arts because it displays character and originality with the national sentiments of Koreans. It generally has simple shape than does landscape painting and literary painting, but the use of bold and flashy color and configuration in Munjado strongly expresses Korean aesthetics. Such a Munjado symbolically represents ordinary people's life customs and a wish to achieve daily life goals. And having this practicality as its basis, it has a lot of similarities as modern art.
Lettering design forms the shape of letters. The lines, shape, and color of letters work to show its meaning more effectively. Lettering design creates a creative and unique form of letters that sometimes becomes a symbol for a company or organization. It can also have a positive effect on advertisement or brand goods through visual uniqueness of the letter image.
A lesson on the use of traditional art by modern means awakes students to learn the identity of Korean culture of art and to creatively express their thoughts and feelings. Students can learn about the excellence and value of Korean culture of art. They are able to accept this seemingly difficult art in a new perspective. This lesson can also be very effective in helping them express their character and try creative methods based on what they learned.
Thus this study intends to connect Munjado which have Korean aesthetic quality with modern life. This study will suggest a lesson on design that integrates lettering design with feature of Munjado to reflect an unusual aesthetic sense. Furthermore, I hope this study will become a chance to get self-esteem about Korean culture of art and develop the ability and attitude to recreate the old things.
In this study, I analyzed content and formative feature of Munjado with theoretical consideration. Then I researched general understanding about lettering design and various cases of lesson of design using former result. I studied the application of formativeness of Munjado in particular, including application of lines, composition and color to lettering design.
