Ruskin's Political economy of art in the late 19th century was referred as main stream study for the rationalization. Also, for the study of economics of culture, which inherits Ruskin's idea, Baumol and Bowen's early economics of culture theories, and Throsby, D., Ikegami Jun, Charles M. Gray, and James Heilbrun's recent theories were referred to justify the idea that government aid is the basic funding source for the art and culture development. The author reinterpreted this idea as a logic for suggesting the social support on the art and culture.
Setting the rationalization of economics of culture as an axis, the author analyzed the U.S. donation cases and provided with a practical model for the logic of donation in the field of art and culture. The Beautiful Foundation and Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation's donation models were referred for the case study of art institution's donation model. The case study was conducted focusing on the variables of logic, regime, and programs for fundraising. As the result of the study, it suggested triangular figure with the three elements on each side as a tool for developing a fundraising model for art and culture institute. The triangle shows,
First, the logic for the donation is distinguishably presented as essential value and practical value of art and culture. The essential value can be the nature of art and culture as a public property and its social value, while the practical value can be the external effect which is the impact of various art and culture, and the virtue of art institutions, mostly its non-profitability, as a core factor for the donation logic.
Second, Art institution's fundraising regime is divided into internal and external regimes. The internal one is configured by creating and operating a fundraising unit pursuant to the leadership of the management, the role of a multiplier. The external one consists of committee; a group of the opinion leaders of the society, and supporters; the public. The key role for the committee and supporter group is to stimulate the public's interest or understanding on the value of art and culture or the institution, and encourage them to participate.
Third, art and culture program, which is fundamental and resource allocating program, is the core fundraising program of art institution. based upon this, various programs can be planned to acquisite resources. Namely, in order to boost the social value of art and culture, fundraising program provided by art institution and consensus and participation of the public and business sector completes the art institution's donation model.
Consequently, the settlement of the donation model should be predicated on the boost of the art and culture in the society.
